Happy New Year – a year of Green Hope!

Best wishes from the Management Team to all our users. This
year we are beginning a project to make the Hall, greener, more
sustainable, not to mention cheaper to run! We are in the middle of
installing automatic lighting in our ‘Comfort rooms’ or loos as we
say normally. This should cut down on excess use of lighting and
therefore electricity. We are presently applying for planning
permission and grants for the installation of photovoltaic panels
on the New Meeting Room roof. This will, on a good day, provide us
with a significant amount of the Hall’s electricity needs. At other times we will be able
to feed power back into the grid. This has two effects: saving
electricity (and therefore money), and lowering the Hall’s carbon
footprint. Allied to this is a payment from the government for the
power we generate and also for the amounts we feed into the grid.
This is phase one. Phase two will be the installation of air source
heat pumps so that we can provide the Hall with cheaper heating.
The units, we hope, will be partly powered by our panels. Watch
this space!
